Railway Station, Patrickswell, Co Limerick

This Railway Station project was carried out with the assistance of Limerick Architects O’Connor & Shanahan, a well known consultancy with wide ranging experience and particular expertise in the area of conservation buildings.

Full restoration of the Patrickswell Station House constructed in 1856 involved the creation of a large two storey office space in an area which originally contained an enclosed yard with fuel sheds and water tanks, as well as the refurbishment an extension of the building’s footprint.

As the building had significant conservation value, the Architect’s approach dictated a light touch, engineering design brief being that all new structural elements would be demountable and not cause damage or interfere with the existing building.

“The Railway Station” was awarded the prestigious Opus Award in 2000 under the Conservation
